Keeps riding with the screen off
A bike computer that stops the moment the screen locks is not a bike computer. Tracking continues with the phone asleep in a jersey pocket.
What it shows
- GPS and heart rate still arriving with the screen off
- A persistent notification on Android while a ride runs
- The ride still running when you pull the phone back out
On Android that means a foreground service with a notification you can see — the price of the system leaving the app alone to keep recording.
On iPhone the equivalent is declared background location and Bluetooth use, which the system grants for exactly this kind of app.
