Garmin’s pilot watches. Under the aviation features they are Venu- and epix-class hardware, and they run the same Connect IQ apps.

The D2 Air X10 is Venu-class hardware and takes a swipe; the D2 Mach 1 is epix-class with five buttons. The app tells them apart only by screen width, which it reads once at start-up.

How that scaling works, and how the app gets onto the watch, is on the Garmin watches page; pairing the watch to the phone is the Garmin and iPhone or Garmin and Android setup.

What the watch shows

Six values at once on the watchA dense page with no hero at all: speed, average, distance, time, heart rate and climb, together on a 260-pixel round screen.
The climb profile, on your wristThe last 30 minutes of altitude plotted on the watch, over total climb and current elevation.
Splits on the watchThe kilometre in progress greyed at the top, the last three finished ones below with time, pace and heart rate.
Heart rate zones on the watchThe zone you are in as the hero, over one bar per zone sized by time spent there, read from your Garmin profile.
One big number, your choiceThe two core watch pages: a hero metric you pick with three smaller values beneath, and an extended stats page.
How hard it felt, recorded with the rideTwo circular dials after you save — perceived effort and how the ride felt — written into the FIT file itself.
