The fēnix 6 and 7 families are transflective screens; the fēnix 8 splits into AMOLED 43 mm and 47 mm models, transflective Solar models at 47 mm and 51 mm, and the 8 Pro. The layout is the same on every one of them — one design, scaled to the screen — which is exactly why the app measures its hero digits rather than trusting one font size across three case sizes.
Every fēnix has the five-button layout the app’s controls are written for: START to begin, pause and resume a ride, BACK to save or discard it, UP and DOWN to page through the ride screens. The 7 and 8 also have touch, so a swipe pages too.
A fēnix records the ride to its own FIT file and syncs it to Garmin Connect like any native activity; the phone only ever shows the numbers.
